Biography
Nandamuri Balakrishna, the heir to Legendary actor NTR, is the hero of the masses. He needs no introduction to the Telugu audience. Balakrishna, dearly called by his fans as Balayya, stayed away from publicity and never really cared for the media. Though he entered the field because of his father, it's his hardwork and dedication that got him a top slot in the industry.
Balakrishna entered film industry at a very young of 14. Tatammakala starring NTR and Bhanumathi is his first film. He acted in many films with his father, legendary actor NTR. He acted as NTR's brother in Annadammula Anubandham and Rowdy Ramudu Konte Krishnudu. He also played son to his real life brother Hari Krishna in the movie Dana Veera Soora karna, directed and produced by NTR. Balayya played the role of Abhimanyu in Dana veera Soora Karna. Also he acted with his father in one the greatest movies, Sri Madvirat Potuluri Veerabrahmendraswamy charitra, as his disciple. Other films that he worked with his fater include Raam Rahim, Vemulavada Bhimakavi, Akbar Salim Anarkali, Sri Tirupati Venkateswara Kalyanam, Anuraga Devatha.
Balakrishna married Vasundhara Devi in 1982. The couple is blessed with three children - Brahmini, Tejaswini and Mokshagna Tarakarama Teja It was in 1984, he did his first movie as solo hero. Mangamma gari manavadu, Kathanayakudu to start with. From there on he went to become the hero of the masses. Sitarama Kalyanam, Desodharakudu, Apoorva Sahodarulu, Ramudu Bhimudu, Rakthabhishekam, Muddula Mavayya and many more steered his career successfully into the 90's.
Undeniably, Balakrishna is the best suitable hero to do films with village backdrop. Village costumes, in full white, fits no one as good as it does for Balayya. Following NTR, it's only Balakrishna who could do justice to the mythological films. Bhairawa Dweepam and Sri Krishnarjuna yudham - both directed by Singitham Srinivasarao fall in the same category. Only science fiction film in Telugu - Aditya 369 - is done by none other than Balayya. Also Balakrishna gets the unique distinction of hero ever to have two releases on one day. They are Nippuravva and Bangaru Bullodu.
His films SamaraSimhareddy, Narasimhanaidu released in 1999 and 2001 respectively created history, proving the stamina of Telugu film industry's box office stamina. Why else was he called Box office Bonanza?
In one of his interviews to a magzine, he mentioned about his dream projects to be Gona Ganna Reddy and Chengiz Khan. He wanted to direct these movies too under his home production of Ramakrishna studios.
Early life
Balakrishna is son of Late Sri Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao and Smt Late Basavatarakam belongs.He has been acting since from his childhood.
He entered cine field as a child artist.Even though entered the film industry because of his father, later his hard work, discipline, talent and dedication made him stand in the industry. He had been acting in movies for the past 27 years but unlike some of his peers, he never cared to celebrate the 10th or the 25th anniversaries of his movie career. He is a simple person and likes to stay away from publicity, which is one of the factors that didn't get him the due recognition. He acted in a movie called annadammula anubandham, a remake of Dharmendra's hindi hit yadonki barat at the age of 16. Upon watching this movie, the other legend of the Telugu film industry Sri. ANR's comment was "Simham Kadupuna Simham Puttindi".
He got his first commercial break as Hero with 'Mangamma Gari Manavadu'. Bhargava Arts and Kodi Rama Krishna are responsible for the elevation of Hero image for Balaiah in the early days.He had acted in 4 Golden Jubilee movies produced under the Bhargav Arts (producer Sri. S. Gopala Reddy) banner. .Balayya is famous for his roles in the movies made with village backdrop. The undeniable factor is that, among his contemporaries, he is the only hero who is best suitable for playing the mythological and folklore roles in movies, for which his legendary father was famous. Another milestone in the career of NBK is 'Muddula Mavaiah' from the makers of MGM. But the director who made NBK look invincible is B Gopal. Rowdy Inspector had set the cash registers ringing in 1992 summer. Though he is known for ferocious acting, he too had played soft roles and got the appreciation from all and sundry. Three immaculate classics of NBK career are 'Naari Naari Naduma Muraari' , 'Aditya369' and 'Bhairava Dweepam'.

During the year of 1993 only two of his movies were released and surprisingly both of them were released on the same day. This is one of the unique feats that none of his contemporaries would ever dare to try.
More than 10 of his movies collected a gross of more than 1 crore in the first week (his movie Dharma Kshethram collected a gross of 2+ crores in the first week which is a record for an average movie). SamaraSimha Reddy is the pinnacle of success for NBK.samarasimhareddy(1999)is the 1st regional language movie to break hindi movie record, creating all india record by running 175 days in 32 centers breaking the record of salmankhan mainepyarkiya which ran 175 days in 27 centers ,interestingly the previous state record during slab time also belonged to him which is Muddula Mavayya ,175 days in 21 theatres.
Narasimha Naidu is the first telugu movie to have a 100 day run in more than 100 theatres(100Days in 105 centres, 175 days in 17 centers).
Balakrishna holds a record of having a longest run movie to date(2008) to his name, Mangamma Gari Manavadu,536 days . Muddula Mavayaa is the first Telugu Movie to have a 100 day run in Orissa. His movies 4 Movies Talli Tandrulu, Rowdy Inspector, Nippuravva, Birava Dwepam had a 100 day run in Tamil Nadu.
